Becoming a specialist physician: the journey

The Journey of a West African IMG

About

Hi! I am a Nigerian doctor whose long-term goal is to become a specialist physician. 🙏

I started this blog in 2011 to track my journey to becoming a specialist in Nigeria. However, after leaving Nigeria to Canada for personal reasons, I now use this blog to also help other international medical graduates (IMGs) like myself who scout the internet for extra information/guidance to post-graduate medical education or medical career in Canada.

Please follow my journey as I work on achieving my goals. Send me an email: internationalphysiciantraining (@) gmail.com.

  1. Hello Ufuoma; I stumbled upon your site today while searching for a NAC OSCE course. Me too, am an IMG, who finished Med School almost 10 years ago, completed there my specialty in Radiology and is now trying to get into the system. Your site is wonderful, and your thorough descriptions are very much appreciated. However what really amazed me was your most recent post, in which you tell us about your experience with the CARMS 2018 cycle. This will be my first cycle (but probably not the last…) and I wish us both all the good luck in the world. People frequently dont understand the huge investement in money, time and energy we put into this. Would you recommend me to take a course to prepare the OSCE? My finances are tight so I am considering not to. Thoughts?
    Thank you!
    Manuela

    1. I had responded before but I’m not sure if you saw my response so I decided to repost it.
Thank you for your kind words Dr Manuela. I pray this will be your first and only application. I know finances are tight so if you have a partner that you can practice with, you don’t need a course. I didn’t attend any. However, if you don’t have any partner, please go ahead and register for a course. ♥
